Momentary Driving Distractions May Cause Accidents

By July 5, 2012June 8th, 2020Insurance

Driving distractions occur year round, but summer may feature a few extra distractions in California. Taking your eyes off the road could cause an accident that may have been totally avoidable. In addition to the possibility of being injured, and having to get your car repaired, you may have to file a claim on your southern California auto insurance.

Text messaging and cell phone usage are two of the major causes of auto accidents, but there are other distractions that pull drivers attention away from the road. In California, activities on the beaches may cause distractions, including girls in bikinis, boats, and beautiful sunsets. Other sites that are visible from the roads, such as water slides and roller coasters, may cause drivers to take their eyes off the road.

Accidents blocking the road, and off on the side of the road, sometimes cause more accidents when nosy drivers stop to look.  Billboards and other large signs on the side of the road may cause accidents when drivers try to read them. Roadside car washes, people selling things on the side of the road, and even wildflowers growing in the median have been known to cause accidents when drivers slow down to look at them.

It is important to keep your eyes on the road ahead of you at all times. Also important is purchasing the right southern California auto insurance to give you the financial protection you need in the event of an accident.
